We all need moisturizers no matter what our age is and what our skin type is. But are we using the right moisturizer? I researched some facts about moisturizers and I want to share them with you.First, we need to know what our skin type is. Different skin types require different types of products. Contrary to popular belief, people with oily skin still need to apply moisturizers on their skin. Don't you know that your skin becomes oilier if you don't moisturize it? If you have an oily skin, use an oil-free and noncomedogenic moisturizer. These type of moisturizers won't make your face oilier. Steer away from creams as these are too heavy for your skin. For someone like me who has combined skin, I only use lotions and not creams as lotions are light compared to creams, not to mention that creams tend to make my face oilier. If you have oily skin and is very prone to acne, use a moisturizer which contains salicylic acid. Salicylic acid aids the process of skin exfoliation, hence reducing the appearance of blemishes. If your skin is very dry, you may want to apply a hydrating serum on your face first before applying your moisturizer. Go for creams as this is more moisturizing. If you have a sensitive skin, look for a moisturizer that is noncomedogenic and is fragrance-free.
Consider the product's ingredients first before buying it. Choose a moisturizer which doesn't contain lots of fillers or wax. According to Dr. Cameron Rokhsar, an effective moisturizer has water on top of its ingredients list. I think you all know that water is the most important hydrator. Look for oils (olive, jojoba, coconut), aloe, and shea butter as all of these are effective in moisturizing our skin (again, if you have oily skin, steer away from moisturizers which contain oil).
If you want to make your moisturizers penetrate better into your skin, use an exfoliating scrub. Gentle exfoliation removes the dry part of our skin. This dry skin is waterproof, hence it blocks the moisturizer from penetrating deep into our skin. Do not exfoliate your skin every day or you'll end up irritating your skin. You can exfoliate once a week or once every two weeks.
It will also be better if you have a separate day moisturizer and night moisturizer. Compared to daytime moisturizers, night time moisturizers are more intense and allows the skin to repair itself while we sleep.
Do you think you are using the right moisturizer? What is your favorite moisturizer?

oooOh I dunno if I'm using the right one lol basta nun gumamit ako ng Eskinol plus dalacin-c eh lahat ng moisturizer na naging pwede lol.. so true sis ...but I dont use soap anymore cuz IF...I will break-outs :C...GReat post I learn something new :D
xoxo
Very informative, Sis!
I'm currently using Myra E Facial Moisturizer. As for my skin type, di ako sure. hahaha! So bottom line is I don't know if I'm using the right one.
For hot and humid places, I like light moisturizers (like Biokos, Garnier).
but for cooler places, my skin tends to dry out and Biokos/Garnier is not enough... so far, i'm loving the Nivea inner cell repair i bought yesterday... i use it day and night to maximize the effect :D my wind burns are really bad... makes my skin rough and patchy which interferes with a flawless foundation application.
and thank you sis for the sweet comment on my previous post aaaw! luv yah!
i have combined skin type so i use ponds for the oily part and then olay for the dry part.. works well for me..^^
i seldom use soap in washing my face.. i use dove during cold season and ponds facial wash during summer :D
I also have dry skin. It's such a pain! I just bought the NIvea baby soft cream last week. SO far, it's working, no breakouts from this product. I bought ti because I need a moisturizer that is gentle enough for my uber sensitive skin and that would help me stay away from my skin allergies (weather is the culprit and steroids form meds). So far, it gave me clear (no red spots a.k. a allergies)and moisturized skin - love it!
i'm currently using a (rather high-end) skin care line from the face shop and it works for me. i also use sample products from IOPE and DeAge. they are all good. just remember to put just the right amount. putting on too much can also lead to white heads and pimples--hard learned lesson.. i thought then the more i put, the better... but after i finish my bottles, i might go back to clinique or try IOPE.. choosing the right product also means spending more than the usual. but as long as i can afford it, it's just okay. afterall, it's my skin, haha and here in korea, their definition of "beauty" is really painful... aargh!
